Tour 3 Amish Country
Tour 3 Amish Country
Date Expired !
Overview
1st Day (Saturday): Pennsylvania’s tradition of civil and religious freedom attracted people from many places and its workforce turned the resources of the state into vast industries. This is a real tour to the past, focused on the descendants of the first German settlers, the Amish that arrived in 1683 seeking religious freedom. Rolling hills with lush grasses and crops, farms with windmills dotting the bucolic horizon; horse-drawn buggies and horses sharing the road, remind us that this is not a pantomime; that, even today, the Amish still practice humility and reject, as much as possible, modernity. We will see people of all ages wearing humble puritan clothes in sober colors (green, blue, gray, black); no cellphone or informatics’ pandemic here. We’ll visit the Amish House; then enjoy a delicious lunch; and go to the famous Kitchen Kettle Village with its variety of crafts and traditional foods (homemade breads, cakes, cookies, cheeses, jams, condiments and excellent food with unexpected touches). Then we go to Harrisburg, state capital. After a short tour of the historic district, we’ll go to our hotel.
2nd Day (Sunday): Visit to the Echo Indigenous Caves; where local guides explain these geological wonders. After this we go to the so called “sweetest place in the world”: Hershey, Pennsylvania, founded in 1903. After lunch we’ll visit Hershey’s Amusement Park, reintroduced in our itinerary by popular demand. This 123-acre park offers perfect balance of fun for the whole family. Over 12 roller coasters, numerous water games, carousels, and many other attractions; variety of places to eat and, of course, chocolates everywhere, will delight children and adults.
Places You’ll See :
America's Most Historic Prison Eastern State Penitentiary was once the most famous and expensive prison in the world, but stands today in ruin, a haunting world of crumbling cellblocks and empty guard towers. Its vaulted, sky-lit cells once held many of America's most notorious lawbreakers, including "Slick Willie" Sutton and "Scarface" Al Capone.
